We Are Back

BY THE EDITORS

So, we are back

Two months. That's how long we haven't updated El Journalista. Even though we had lots of things to blog about - movies, series, music festivals, news, cultural reviews - our blogging activities were prohibited, because of work, internships, exams and theses. But now, with the summer break being ahead of us and having "only" a thesis to finish, We. Are. Back.

And now you wonder: what happened in the meantime that took you so long to start blogging again and that might have provided you with some stories, facts and events interesting enough to write about and to be actually read?

Well, when it comes to Vicente: yesterday he finished his last exam of this academical year and now he is again one step closer to getting the degree of translator and interpreter in English, French & Spanish. He also spent the biggest part of June in Belgium, visiting cities like Brussels & Mechelen, watching Spain lose bigtime in the football match against Holland and assisting the most awesome metal music festival on Belgian ground, being Graspop. Now he is back in the Canary Islands together with his chica Elien.

When it comes to Elien, she spent the last five weeks doing an internship at a Flemish television company - Woestijnvis - and playing derby with the Ghent roller derby team. Together with Vince, she enjoyed the metal performances (and also the Belgian beer) at Graspop and now she is writing her thesis, taking pictures in Gran Canaria and looking for job (because taking pics and applying for jobs are indeed at the same level to blog about).

What kind of blogposts can you expect in the next few days and weeks?

Not having blogged for two months definitely has given us a lot of material to write about. And so, when visiting our blog in the next few days, you can come across articles about the following: hair, nails and cupcakes.

¡NO!

This is what you'll find: Spain recently switched kings and we find that some critical views about that abdication are in order. If you like the Spanish Canary Islands or would like to visit them, then stick around. We have some interesting facts and travel tips to tell you about the islands. Roller derby fan¿? One month ago Ghent hosted a European roller derby tournament and the next derby season starts in a month. So for skating stories, this is the place to be. And yes, of course there will be Graspop metal music reviews. Also, we have some linguistic posts in mind and we would like to write about movies and series like the X-men, Game of Thrones and Sex and the City (we won't always be writing about that in a positive context).

No more JournaQuesta.

Unfortunately, we decided to stop our two-weekly-linguistic-contest La JournaQuesta. We experienced that less and less people participated to the contest and that is the main reason why we won't be publishing it anymore. When the time is right, we might come up with a new game, but we don't have concrete plans for that yet. Still, if you would like to give feedback about the contest or about the blog in general, your comments are always more than welcome.

That's it for our being-back-post. We wish you a lot of blog fun and hope to see you here again soon.

Saludos desde Gran Canaria,

Elien & Vince
