About the blog

Once there were this guy and this girl on the Spanish island Gran Canaria. The guy, Vicente, an actual inhabitant of the island, told the girl, Elien – his girlfriend, a Flemish student from Belgium – that he would like to start a project together. The girl answered him: “Well, why not start a blog together? I mean, you’re a good writer, I follow journalism and we both have studied languages.” Vicente immediately fell for the idea, because being both from a different country, he thought it could be very interesting to write about their adventures. “But,” said the guy, “let’s not only share our personal experiences. We could talk about news events from Belgium and Spain, give our opinion. Also, we could write about culture, literature, like, each write reviews about the same subject and compare them.” The girl agreed to this idea and said: “Let’s call the blog El Journalista, since that’s a pun referring to the English word ‘journalist’ and its Spanish equivalent ‘periodista’. I think it also covers the material we would like to write about.” Vicente added to not only write in English, but also Spanish and Dutch, so they could reach a larger audience. And so, after a bit of brainstorming and messing with Google’s Blogger HTML, el-journa-lista.blogspot.com was born.
